The New Haven "Fair Rent" Commission favors landlords over tenants, always. Otis Johnson, who is supposedly in charge, preaches how the commission is really there for the tenant, but it's a lie. Don't fall for it like I did. Even when dealing with unemployed, disabled tenants on public assistance who are living in broken down, black mold infested apartments with retaliatory landlords;even if the tenant has been paying common electricity charges for 3 years; even when the landlord's relative works at city hall and can affect the outcome - no matter to Otis and the rent commission. Landlord will always win. It's been almost a year, and I still have no resolution on the almost $2000 my ex-slumlord owes me for common electricity charges that were illegally charged to me. The office has cancelled meetings at the last moment at least 6 times. At this point, I am forced to seek legal action against the city due to their inability to deal with the situation. This office is a complete sham, and it's time for Otis and company to lose their job.
